The new vintage of the iconic Tapada de Coelheiros White has arrived on the market. This wine reaffirms the producer’s commitment to regenerative and organic agriculture, as well as respect for the natural heritage of its origin. The result is an elegant and vibrant white, perfect for enjoying during the warm summer days.
Tapada de Coelheiros White 2023 is the most authentic expression of this unique terroir. Produced exclusively from Arinto and Roupeiro grapes, the fruit comes from the Vinha da Sobreira-de-Baixo, planted in 2008 next to a small grove of cork and holm oaks.
This dry-farmed vineyard, situated at an average altitude of 280 meters, grows in sandy granite soils with naturally balanced fertility.
The surrounding ecosystem—including montado woodland, forests, sheep, birds of prey, and many other species—helps control pests naturally and maintain vineyard balance, which is essential for practicing regenerative and sustainable viticulture.
Currently, the entire Tapada de Coelheiros estate is managed according to organic and regenerative agriculture principles, a central pillar of the brand’s philosophy. João Raposeira, Agricultural and Sustainability Director at Tapada de Coelheiros, explains:
“These practices enhance the resilience of the vines and surrounding organisms, creating a balance that supports healthy, high-quality wine production.”
The 2023 vintage faced challenging and unique climatic conditions. After a mild winter and a cold, dry February, spring and summer brought above-average temperatures with little rainfall, except in June, which provided some moisture. These conditions contributed to white wines with intense aromatic character and balanced acidity.
The result is an elegant and vibrant white, with expressive aromas of grapefruit and lime, complemented by subtle, well-integrated oak. On the palate, it reveals a creamy texture, body, freshness, and a persistent saline finish.
For Luís Patrão, winemaker at Tapada de Coelheiros:
“This is an elegant and vibrant white, with expressive grapefruit and lime aromas, complemented by subtle, well-integrated oak. On the palate, it offers a creamy texture, body, freshness, and a persistent saline finish that makes you crave more.”
He recommends pairing it with oven-roasted fish or fresh shellfish, marking the 31st vintage of this iconic Alentejo white wine.
Now available online and at selected retailers, the new Tapada de Coelheiros White 2023 invites you to celebrate the summer.
