Classic and time converge as Tapada de Coelheiros 2013 makes its return to the market in a special ‘Cellar Release’ edition. After eleven years in the cellar, this red wine is balanced and silky, achieving the excellence for which it is renowned.
In this relaunch, winemaker Luís Patrão emphasizes, “The wines of Tapada de Coelheiros evoke the unique essence of each vineyard parcel from which they originate. With elegance and notable complexity, each vintage reflects the meticulous effort and attention we dedicate to this territory. The Tapada de Coelheiros 2013 is no exception. Despite the adverse climatic conditions and significant temperature fluctuations during the 2013 harvest, this wine achieved good maturation, becoming balanced with silky tannins. Eleven years post-harvest and seven years since it was last available, we are delighted with the extraordinary evolution that time has bestowed upon it.”
Despite the meteorological challenges faced in 2013, the vineyards and surrounding ecosystems demonstrated resilience and adaptability. The substantial temperature variations allowed for excellent phenolic maturation, resulting in a wine that lives up to its quality and complexity.
Crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon and Alicante Bouschet, this wine comes from dryland vineyards with granitic, low-fertility soils, oriented northwest to southwest at an altitude of 300 meters.
Valuing the importance of agricultural work to achieve a final product of excellence, the grapes were carefully hand-harvested and immediately destemmed. Fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks, with controlled temperatures between 24°C and 26°C. Following fermentation, the wine underwent a 5-day maceration period, with malolactic fermentation occurring naturally in the tank. The wine was then transferred to 225L barrels for 18 months of aging, before being kept in the producer’s cellar for an additional 10 years.
Known for its commitment to regenerative agriculture, Tapada de Coelheiros blends time with dedication and passion for producing high-quality wines with strong aging potential.
The evolution brought by time has rendered the Cellar Release – Tapada de Coelheiros 2013 a wine of great elegance, distinguished by its silky texture and persistent finish, highlighting the balance between freshness and complexity. It features tertiary notes of tobacco, leather, and moss, harmonizing with a background of ripe black fruit. This wine is perfect for pairing with traditional Easter dishes, such as lamb stew, roasted kid, and buttery cheeses.
This limited relaunch, with only 1,130 bottles available, can be found in major wine shops across the country and on the brand’s website, with a gift box.
