Although the year 2019 presented challenges due to a concentrated rainy season in April, most grape varieties resisted any damage. The summer proved to be cooler compared to previous harvests, allowing the grapes to achieve a very good balance at harvest. In turn, in 2021, spring and summer were mild and dry, reducing disease pressure and prolonging the vegetative cycle.
Both wines come from rainfed vineyards, surrounded by cork oak forests, sheep, hares, birds of prey, bats, and many other species that help maintain the balance of the vineyard ecosystem and control the appearance of pests.
Today, the entire property that gives rise to this historic brand is managed through sustainable and regenerative practices, with organic and regenerative agriculture being a vital pillar of everything produced and offered at Tapada de Coelheiros.
“This type of practices enhances the resilience of plants and the beings around them, creating a favorable balance for healthy and qualitative production,” adds João Raposeira, responsible for the field and ecosystems.
TheTapada de Coelheiros Red 2019 is composed of Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) and Alicante Bouschet (30%). It is a wine with a deep ruby color, aromas of ripe black fruits such as plum and cassis, enveloped in subtle notes of spices and graphite. In the mouth, the wine is full-bodied and well-structured, with fine tannins and a long, persistent finish.
As for Tapada de Coelheiros White 2021 , it is produced from Arinto (50%) and Roupeiro (50%). On the nose, it shows citrus notes, focusing on grapefruit, with a very fine oak note. In the mouth, it maintains the citrus profile with unctuosity, body, and vigor.
“The wines of Tapada de Coelheiros evoke the unique essence of each vineyard plot where they originate. With exceptional elegance and remarkable complexity, each harvest is a reflection of the commitment and meticulous attention we dedicate to this territory“, says Luís Patrão, winemaker at Tapada de Coelheiros.
